A Little Bit About Me...
Almost there, kilometer
20 of 21 to the Equator
outside of Quito,
Ecuador.

This race, the half
marathon to the middle
of the world, exemplifies
the events that shape my
writing.

Human adventures, with
a humorous outlook.

I was born in North Carolina, where sayings like the above, or, "If at first you don't
secede, try, try, again," are not just platitudes, they are a philosophy.  I didn't fit in.
Come to think of it, I rarely fit in, and that's probably what has made me assume the
position of observer in life.  Very early in my life, I found that I was most comfortable by
myself; climbing, hiking, or skiing to the top of a point from which I could take note of
the amazing world beneath my swinging feet.  From the knobby hills of North Carolina, I
moved to Colorado, a place where I could widen my perspective--so to speak.  In
Colorado, I began putting my thoughts to paper with some small regularity at the
Mountain Gazette, long a haven for lost souls like Edward Abbey or Dick Dorworth.  Fed
by the MG, and inspired to avoid stagnation, I have recently embarked on a professional
and personal odyssey of teaching English in American schools overseas.  In Ecuador, at
the roof of the Andes in Quito, I've been inspired to wax touristic in a monthly editorial
for the Ecuador Reporter.  The editors have given me carte blanche, and it's been fun, but
a wanderer to the end, next year I have my eyes and words set on the sights of the
adventure capital of the Muslim world, Turkey.  Whiskey River, may you one day, take
me home...
